How to Download and Share Your Facebook Look Back Video

Have you made a Facebook Say Thanks Video Yet?

Note: The following methods worked on a PC using Chrome Version 32.0.1700.76 m.

Want to just share your look back video on facebook?

1. Go to https://www.facebook.com/lookback

2. Click the Bright Green “Share” Button on the upper right hand corner of the page.

3. Select who you want to share the video with and edit the text that will appear with the video (or not!).

4. Click “Share.”

Here’s an easy way to save your facebook look back video for saving/sharing outside of facebook.

1. Go to https://gist.github.com/xadhix/8802624.

2. Copy [Ctrl+C] the 10 lines of code listed under “Facebook Look Back Downloader.”

3. Go to https://www.facebook.com/lookback in a Chrome Browser. [Don’t have Chrome? Get it here.]

4. Click the menu bars in upper right hand corner and select Tools > Javascript Console. A window will pop on top of the browser window.

5. Paste the code [Ctrl+V] into the box that popped up and hit Enter.

6. A link will pop up. Click “HERE”.

7. A Window will pop up with your video. Right click the mouse on top of your video. Select “Save Video As”

8. Name it and save it on your computer. Now it’s yours.

You can upload it to facebook to share it. Or to Youtube. Or just save it on your computer.

H/T to Scott Monty for the link to the downloader.

An alternate way!

1. Go to https://www.facebook.com/lookback in a Chrome Browser. [Don’t have Chrome? Get it here.]

Fachook Look Back 350
2. Click the menu bars in upper right hand corner and select Tools > Developer Tools. A window will pop on top of the browser window.

3. Click on “Network” tab of the window that popped up.

4. Click on the video so that it plays. You may have to play it a few times but eventually you will see a name roll through that has a type that is “video/mp4.”

5. Right click your mouse on the name/path of that video/mp4.

6. Select “Open in New Window.”

7. Right click again. Select “Save Video As”

8. Name it and save it on your computer. Now it’s yours.

You can upload it to facebook to share it. Or to Youtube. Or just save it on your computer.

H/T to Jeff Cutler and CC Chapman for suggesting that it could be done.

John — I just updated the post with an alternative method. Try it. I think it might work easier! Thanks for visiting!

I was able to do it only when I changed the setting to HQ. Then I went to Network then find (command-f on Mac) then typed in mp4 to find it. Once found, I followed instructions to right click then save.

      Thanks!

For some reason when I try to make the video there isn’t a green share button to get started. It just takes me to a collage screen of my photos and a brief description that FB is 10 years old.

Thanks so much for sharing! I couldn’t share my video even though it’s past the time they said they’d make that available. So I just saved it and posted it! :)

  • Kari

Can someone please tell me why I don’t have a bright green share button at the top of my right hand screen? I can’t share :(

P.s. thanks for all the help! I’m hoping I can save it also!

  • Donna

There is no green share button on the screen I am on. What else can I do?

  • sara

I did what you said to “share” my facebook movie , but there is no bright green “SHARE” button in the corner. Confused…????

  • I don’t have a big green share button, and neither do a lot of my friends.

  • Jason

Worked like a charm. Make sure you pause the video, then go to tools, Java Console in Chrome and paste the lines from the github link, then click hold the CTRL key and click “HERE”, from the pop up window. It’ll download automatically to a mp4 file. SWEET!!!!
    Thanks for posting.

Be sure that you are actually logged into Chrome. LOG-IN is in the same little list in the top right of your chrome browser. Log in before selecting developer tools. Works every time for me now. Thanks !

  • AWESOME! Thanks for the great tip!
